I love Jesus and all but. . .

Parent Teacher night is about to begin, but I wanted to quickly write this story before I forget.

This morning my class was working on their research projects. A few kids are reading about Leonardo Da Vinci (popular subject, I wonder why. . .). One kid was flipping through a book of paintings and he happened upon the painting that you see on the left. Actually it was a detail of Jesus and Judas kissing.

From across the room I heard the kid exclaim, "Yo, Mister! Jesus is gay?"

I saw what he was looking at and tried to explain that Judas was a close friend of Jesus, and that in other cultures and at other times, men kissing men is acceptable, normal even.

"Yo, I love Jesus and all," the kid said, "But if I saw him I'd give him like a big hug or something."
